  • 表示过去一段时间内持续进行的动作 (Actions happening over a period of time in the past): They were playing basketball all afternoon.
  • 表示在过去某个时间点,另一动作发生时,正在进行的动作 (Actions interrupted by another action in the past): I was doing my homework when the phone rang. (过去进行时表示较长的动作,简单过去时表示较短的动作,起打断作用)
  • 与 "while" 连用,表示两个动作同时进行 (Two actions happening at the same time with "while"): While I was reading, she was listening to music.
  • 描述背景情景 (Describing a scene or atmosphere): The sun was shining, and the birds were singing.
3. 时间状语 (Time Adverbs/Phrases):
  • at + 具体的过去时间 (at 8 pm last night)
  • yesterday evening/morning/afternoon
  • when (通常与简单过去时连用) (when the UFO arrived)
